I am Lucky To Have had A Walking Cane
December 4, 2008 | Leave a Comment
A few years ago, I had torn a ligament in my right leg while playing soccer. I have recovered since then, but the damage done right below my kneecap was irreversible. X-rays have shown the results, but can’t explain why the minor bone dislocation hasn’t healed. I have had to use a walking cane ever since.
I have a bit of a hard time adjusting to the fact that I cant play soccer like I used to. I still play a pick up game or two. Playing with my nephew has been difficult as well. Don’t get me wrong we play, but it just isn’t the same.
Last night I realized just how lucky I was to still be able to walk after the injury. Even if I had to possibly use a walking cane for the rest of my life. As I was walking 20 steps up the flight of stairs to my apartment, I had slipped and almost tumbled all the way down. Luckily, out of instinct, I used the handle part of my walking cane to cling onto one of the brackets supporting the railing.
My neighbor just happened to be standing near by and offered to give me a hand. What a relief it is to have him living so close. I dont know what I would do without him. He is such a huge help. I am going to have to do something special for him.
The next morning I was not feeling well, a little tired and anxious. I immediately went to my neighbors and thanked him for all his help. I hate the fact that I am so clumsy. I can not remember the last time I was sick. I just tend to fall and hurt myself a lot.
I am so lucky to have such a wonderful family. They still love me even though I always worry them. I swear I have been to the hospital like six times this year alone. I was born with two left feet and trust me they are constantly trying to go left.
