One hint is to try them but only for a blow-dry! You will gather a lot about how he or she handles hair in general and your hair in particular. You can discuss your hair as it is being worked on, and you can see if you feel comfortable with the stylist. If you have experienced poor hairdressers before, really take the time to visit lots of diverse hairdressers in different salons, and test each with a blow-dry. Pamper yourself!
Look for a hairdresser who is going to communicate with you. Ask heaps of questions. Skilled hairdressers will make recommendations. At the same moment they will listen to you and incorporate your requirements, taking into consideration your taste and how much time you want to expend each day doing your hair. Its all give and take, but do not fail to remember that communication works both ways. Make certain you are very clear if you do not like one of their ideas!
Take a number of pictures from magazines. Do not expect miracles though. You may not have the same hair type as the model in a photo.
Choosing a stylist and a salon is all about what makes you feel comfortable. If you like trendy, fad styling, look for a stylistwho does that. If you like more classic, refined work, look for that. many stylists are very loving and nurturing and will make you feel pampered – but they are not necessarily the greatest for you!
One of the best ways to find the right stylist is to look for people with your hair type and good looking hair. This is more often than not a good guide that their stylist will know how to cut and style your hair too.
Look for reviews written in magazines about particular hairdressers and of course query many people you know who have good hair (particularly if it is similar to your hair type).
An excellent hairdresser maybe a bit out of you fee range but they will often have Assistants taught just as well. If you love the chief stylist try their junior staff too.
One last snippet, if your hairdresser does a crap job do not feel bad about switching. You may have a relationship with them but you part with good money and should expect perfect hair!
