Rats are a serious household problem around the world. Some of the methods of dealing with the rat problem in your house are discussed here.

One of the best ways to do this is to use electronic pest control methods. There are effective sonic rat repellents available that give out noises of high frequency to drive away rats. Neither human beings nor household pets can hear these sounds and they are thus safe for use in homes.

Another technique of dealing with rats is by using organic rat repellents. This technique uses tiny pellets or tablets of chemicals that let out smell of carnivores that feed on rodents, thereby scaring them away. They can be spread evenly across the residence, in the backyard, garage and any other place that is inhabited by rats.

Moth balls can also be used to repel rats as the strong odour emitted by them drives rats away from your residence. These can be placed at the nooks and corners of the home for better results.

One of the methods that have been in practice for quite some time now is the use of mechanical traps, commonly called wooden snap traps. They are not just cheap and easy to use, but are also extremely effective if laid with the right bait. However, they need to be placed away from children and household as they can injure them. One major problem with snap traps is that they can capture only one rat at a time. Yet a good thing about them is that they do not have toxic ingredients, unlike other rat repellents.

A glue board can also be used to trap and remove rats. They can be wooden or made of cardboard with their surface covered with glue. The board can then be placed at specific places after placing bits of food to draw the rats. When a rat tries to nibble on the crumbs from the board, it gets stuck and then can be manually removed or allowed to slowly die of starvation.
