In the business world, appearance is everything. Business decisions are made everyday based upon the image of the people who are making the proposal. No one wants to be left behind based upon something as trivial as attire, and this is why knowing the modern rules of business attire is crucial to success in the corporate world.
Make sure not to over dress. Wearing basic black or blue suits with white shirts is very eighties. Too many accessories is another tip off to date you. People making the corporate decisions want a person in touch with today, fashion speaking and corporately speaking.
Keep it simplified. You can express your individuality, just don’t over do it. It is not wise too attract a lot of attention to yourself. You need to remain professional.
You should choose classic pieces. You can spend more on timeless clothing, and have it tailored. You should have a pair of black wool pants and leather shoes to match several outfits. But tailored shirts, that are high quality. You can also wear sweaters everyday now. These rules apply to both genders.
Next, add your personal touch. Although you don’t want to go overboard and look unprofessional, business people are expected to show a little personality in their dress. You can choose an unusual color for your shirt, or add an accessories such as a scarf or trendy earrings. The key here is moderation; while one personally expressive piece is a good idea, having two, three, or more may detract from your image and your message.
The idea is to look good while not making a spectacle of yourself. If you want to be a professional, you must dress the part, and people will take you seriously.
